Symbolic codes

4. THE IMPORTANCE OF THE PHONE BOOTH IN THE CLIP:
5. HIS TWISTING AND TURNING IN HIS BED:

The part at the end of the clip where he is struggling with himself in the bed (not to be interpreted the wrong way) shows to us that he is still struggling on the inside whether to conform to the “sunglasses people” or keep on rebelling against the flow of what everybody expects of him.
4. THE IMPORTANCE OF THE PHONE BOOTH IN THE CLIP:

The phone booth is the single place in which Corey Hart can cry out about his defiance of the trend of sunglasses and their meaning (although this later result in him being thrown in a holding cell). It is an important part because we realize then and there that he is against the “sunglasses people” (a term that I have coined).
The use of the piping in the clip is to show Corey hart through leading lines (thanks to Ash Tubb for telling me this) this exhibits to the viewer that Corey is the centre of the video and that he is the most important thing in it.
3. THE USE OF MID AND HIGH CAMERA SHOTS:

1: THE SUNGLASSES AND THEIR SYMBOLIC MEANING:

The glasses have a very symbolic meaning to them. During the video clip
They depict the zombie like attitude displayed by the people and their entrapment in society. They also exhibit to the viewer that the wearers of the sunglasses have no sense of identity or any uniqueness to their personality. The sunglasses are very symbolic of what happens in real life for instance fashion trends are often copied by young females (15-25) which results in every attractive females(or not so attractive) looking the same as each therefore showing that they have no sense of individuality.
This may seem very irrelevant to the topic but my mother once said to me that it’s the trend setters that are the cool ones not the trend followers (this is wrong however because most attempted trend setters usually crash and burn in a flame of failure) but the idea is correct.

2.THE STAMPING ON THE FILE (PICTURE BELOW):

The stamping on the file perfectly exemplifies how society has condemned Corey for being different to the rest of the so called “normal” people (if you can call anything from the 80’s normal) the reason they have condemned him and placed him in the holding cell is because they are scared of change. This is very similar to real life in the way that some societies don’t like to accept different races either because they also are afraid of change.

3. THE USE OF SOLEMN FACIAL EXPRESSIONS AND DARK CLOTHING BY THE PEOPLE THAT WEAR SUNGLASSES:

The use of the extremely solemn facial expressions in tandem with the dark clothing further exemplify my claim that the people are very much like zombies in the way that they are incapable of thinking for themselves. (for more clarification re-read question 1 of symbolic codes)

Technical Codes

1. THE USE OF THE DARK LIGHTING IN THE CLIP:

The use of dark lighting in this video clip gives the viewer a feeling that this clip is about a rather dark topic, which is confirmed by the whole Corey’s Inner struggle thing.

2. THE USE OF THE PIPING IN THE SCENE WHERE HE IS HEAD BOPPING:

The use of the piping in the clip is to show Corey hart through leading lines (thanks to Ash Tubb for telling me this) this exhibits to the viewer that Corey is the centre of the video and that he is the most important thing in it.

3. THE USE OF MID AND HIGH CAMERA SHOTS:

The use of high and mid camera shots in the clip is to convey to the viewer where we are opposed to Corey in the chain of superiority. This clip is quite confusing as the high and low camera angles change according to the status of whether he is wearing Sunglasses or not.

4: THE USE OF THE BIRDS EYE VIEW AT THE END OF THE CLIP:\

The use of the birds eye view is to let the viewer see just how bad Corey’s inner struggle on whether to wear sunglasses or not is.

5. THE FACT THAT THIS CLIP IS HARDCORE 80’S SPECIAL FX:

This clip is extremely stereotypical of an 80’s video clip because of the very cheesy (but hi-tech for its time) fading and disappearing effects that are produced. Also the concept of a whole song based around a pair of sunglasses could only have been conceived in the 80’s.

THERE ARE NO AUDIO OR WRITTEN CODES TO EXPLAIN ABOUT IN THIS VIDEO CLIP BY COREY HART.

Represention

This video clip is represented much like a lot of other 80’s clips. IT MAKES NO SENSE!!! This video clip is nothing more than an assorted bunch of random people wearing sunglasses trying to pass it off as a music video. This video is very much like other video’s from the 80’s that have a random topic such as EVERYBODY HAVE FUN TONIGHT, and KARMA CHAMELEON.
