MY FAMILY IN HISTORY

A MAJOR TECHNOGICAL CHANGE THAT HAS INFLUENCED MY FAMILY:

The internet has definitely changed the way my mother works (sort of) because before the internet she was either looking after my 7 & 10 yr old brother and sister or working at the bureau of statistics (back then she was working with top of the line computer technology which is now obsolete). Now things have changed dramatically, she now uses the internet every single day of the week for either her university work or her web design business.

Another technological advance that has influenced my mother, though not in as positive a way as the internet is appliances (like blenders, and vacuums) she insists that they have made her workload double as hard except for her sprecial coffee machine and the fridge she says.

A MAJOR EVENT THAT INFLUENCED MY FAMILY:

The Vietnam war heavily influenced my mother. She says that it changed her view of both war and government, she was disgusted when Vietnam veterans were not given acces to RSL clubs because they had gone to war just like any other soldier and they got treated like second class citizens afterwards. She also knew to men that had been infected with the potentially fatal chemical weapon agent orange and their children were born with deformities because of it.

Another big event that affected my family was the events that occured on the 11th of september 2001 when two jumbo jets hijacked by terrorists were purposely guided into the 2 world trade centers. In fact fact my mother was playing a game on the computer and heard about in an online chat site as it was happening so my brother turned on the tv and we watched the second plane hit the tower live. This effected the whole way my family thought thought of war, they just thought it was people shooting at each other buut now they know that there are many other ways to commit an act of war.

MIGRATION, WHERE DID I MOVE FROM AND WHY?:

My family on my mothers side is said to go back to be as far as ninth generation Australians even though we have got heritage from many other cultures such as English(obviously), German, Spanish, Irish, Italian, and a little bit of Scottsh and Hungarian too for good measure.
My fathers side of the family migrated from Victoria when my dad was 4 weeks old (50 years ago) beacuse of my grandfathers work. With the intentions of moving back there in a couple of years it never happened because they were forming a solid life for themselves here in WA.

SOCIAL AND CULTURAL CHANGES OVER TIME:

Cultural change never really effected my mother who went to 17 different schools during her childhood, her first best friend ever was an aboriginal girl, her current best friend is Zimbabwean
and her Aunties husband is an African American from Seattle so really my family has known nothing but cultural change.
